WIAW: New Year New Me

Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you were all safe and had a wonderful celebration. I'll post later about what I did, but this post is all about my first day of eats for the year and my resolutions.
Thanks to Jenn for hosting this awesome party!

Michael and I got to enjoy our breakfast next to a fire at our hotel, very nice.
 Breakfast:
I kept it healthy with the continental breakfast by getting whole wheat toast w/ strawberry jam, an orange, raspberry yogurt, and apple juice.
After we packed up everything we headed down to Cannery Row in Monterey for some lunch and a visit to the aquarium. We had a gorgeous view from our seats at the restaurant.
We got to watch an otter for most of our entire lunch just floating around out there.
Lunch:
Shirley Temple, half a bread roll, and fish and chips (which I didn't finish)
After lunch we wandered down to the aquarium which was bombarded by huge family groups which made it a tad difficult to see the animals.
But we still got to see plenty of animals and enjoy the sunshine

Once we left the aquarium we stopped by Ghiradelli to get a hot fudge sundae, it's required, plus hey it's chocolate, who passes up chocolate?!

We got home and I put up my ankle which got twisted the day before yesterday and Michael was kind enough to bring my gimpy self some dinner.
Dinner:
Leftover pasta and homemade garlic bread
And I couldn't pass up dessert which was leftover cake, but I won't be posting a picture of it until I give my recap of my New Year's Eve night. Oh the suspense!!

New Year New Me
Every year I make resolutions and usually don't stick with them. Hell, half the time I don't even remember what my resolutions were! But thankfully this year I have Michael to keep me accountable and vice versa.
Be positive. I have a horrible habit of being negative and I recently read Miranda Kerr's book Treasure Yourself. She really talks about positive affirmations so I plan on writing down a positive affirmation at least once a week (hopefully every day) to keep me in the right frame of mind.

Be calm. I was doing yoga every day for awhile and then finals hit. But I'm taking another crack at doing yoga everyday because I absolutely love it and it makes me feel wonderful.

Be healthy. This past holiday season meat was popping up all over the place in my diet and it wasn't making me feel so wonderful. I've eaten a mostly vegetarian diet for awhile and I'm trying to really keep that going. Of course I won't drop meat completely, sometimes it happens. So I'm limiting myself to chicken or fish once a month, if at all.
I also plan on hitting the gym 4-5 times a week again. I dropped the ball and I really need to work on gaining my strength back.

Be motivated. Michael and I plan on running a bunch of races this year so I'm really excited for that! So far we've planned the Color Me Run, Bolder Boulder in Colorado, and the Wharf to Wharf. I will personally be running a local 5K and Michael is going to do the Spartan Race in Colorado, I'm so excited to cheer him on!

As a couple Michael and I made resolutions, but I won't bore you with all of them except that we plan on going hiking once a month. A man who loves to hike! Yes!

Hope everyone has had a wonderful first day of the new year!

Any New Year's resolutions? Do you find it hard to stick to them?
Any advice for the races we'll be running?
