WIAW: Sharks vs. Ducks

I never actually write my What I Ate Wednesday on Wednesday, but last night I came home from an awesome hockey game and practically face planted it into my bed. No way was I blogging that late.
So anyway, thanks to Jenn for this awesome party!
I had an energy ball before my morning workout and yoga class, but didn't snap a picture.

Breakfast:
Oatmeal with brown sugar and cinnamon, lots and lots of cinnamon
Hot chai tea to warm me up on a freaking cold morning

Pre-Zumba snack
Erewhon cocoa crispy cereal with almond milk
Unfortunately I couldn't find any parking so I had to skip Zumba

Lunch
 D'anjou pear
The most random concoction: Whole wheat shells with mushroom marinara, crumbled veggie patty, broccoli, peas, and parm cheese.

Snacks:
 A few squares of chocolate
Whole wheat toast with almond butter

Sharks vs. Ducks
Michael's parents took me to a San Jose Sharks game against the Anaheim Ducks. It was my first NHL game and I was so stoked!
For dinner we went to Panera on our way to the game, but I was feeling queasy from the car ride so I only had a croissant, hunk of bread, and a bite or two of Michael's mac and cheese. No pictures though.
My first Sharks game ever!!
 Smart pop popcorn from home
A churro...I had to, they're amazing.

It was a pretty awesome game and we won! My voice is all scratchy from yelling so much, but I had the best time!

Whoopsie (Fit Fridays #7)

Alright, this whole blogging on time thing is a little difficult for me to master.
I had to take my cat to the vet yet again on Friday so most of the day was spent giving him oodles of love, I'm sure you understand my slip up right?
But I didn't want to do just a Fit Friday post because I also love joining Katie at Healthy Diva Eats for Marvelous Mondays.
So let's combine them together and ignore the fact that it's Monday and not Friday, k?

Sunday:
I was still feeling under the weather and wanted to get back to 100% so I stayed in bed.
Monday:
I didn't want to push myself too hard jumping back in so I just did some yoga in the morning at home.
Tuesday:
Went for a morning yoga session at the gym, 6:30 AM baby!
Started running again, jog 5 minutes, walk 3, jog 5, walk 3. Not too hard and I got to try out a new running course around my neighborhood.
It's been rather chilly around here

Wednesday:
Yoga at the gym and with this teacher I feel like my perception that I was good at yoga has been squashed. I'm not saying I'm bad, I can do most poses (headstands and crow pose will be mine one day!), but holding them as long as we do in her class just makes me realize I haven't pushed myself a whole lot at home. It also really points out where my body is weak and where I need to work on strengthening.
Thursday:
Morning yoga sesh at the gym

Friday:
Is usually a day off, but I skipped 2 run days this week so I needed to make them up, plus I've got nothing better to do with my time. But man was this run a killer; run 8 minutes, walk 5, run 8. 8 minutes doesn't seem like a long time, but I felt like I was just about ready to keel over.

Saturday:
Last day of run 8, walk 5, run 8, but Michael and I ran it along the beach by his house. Each was is 1 mile and unfortunately my brain knew that so it was tiring itself out faster than my body was.
Has anyone watched The Biggest Loser? I know the show is controversial, but I won't throw my opinion in because I just don't know what goes on behind the scenes. What I will say about the show is that the contestants motivate me to keep pushing through no matter what. I'm not overweight nor have I ever been so I can't say I understand their struggles, but they push through and just move. That alone inspires me to keep going, especially when I'm running. This season they did a 5K and one girl actually ran it, she has me by over 100 pounds and yet she didn't give up. When I'm running I always remind myself of that so I don't give up.
I know that was a very long-winded thing right there, but I hope you all understand what I mean.

Working out is just marvelous so I hope you all get your butts out there and move, be it a yoga or Zumba class or a walk outside. Get moving!

How do you stay active?
Anyone else The Biggest Loser fans?

WIAW: Normalcy

Lame-o title? Yeah I know, I just couldn't think of anything witty.
Maybe I'll just start doing numbers cause it seems like my witty cap is missing.
Anywho, thanks to Jenn for this awesome linkup as usual!
Tuesday was my first day really getting back to exercising after being sick and I'm not gonna lie, I was down to just stay in bed. But I dragged my butt out of bed and made some food.
Pre-yoga breakfast:
1 egg & 1 egg white scrambled w/ salt and pepper and 2 slices of multigrain toast with butter
After yoga I was freezing my butt off so I had a nice hot cup of chai tea
And a cutie
They're like crack, I swear.

I hauled my butt out of my warm house for a run outside
 Lots of water
Post-run breakfast/my new obsession:
Plain Greek yogurt w/ berry jam
I can't stand plain greek yogurt, but I hated how much sugar and just crap that was in the flavored stuff. So one day I had some leftover jam in my fridge and was like "hey, why not?" and I fell in love with it. This berry preserve I got from Whole Foods is to diiiiie for. It has like 10g of sugar in 1 tablespoon and trust me, you don't even need that much to flavor it.

Before I went to work I had to try this new cereal I heard about from Kammie at Sensual Appeal
Lunch:
Erewhon's Cocoa Crispy Brown Rice Cereal with unsweetened almond milk.
This stuff is so much better than Cocoa Krispies. I inhaled the bowl. Sooo soo good!

Snacks at work:
Cheddar bunnies, more water, and 2 more cuties (I told you they're crack!)
Dinner:
Nachos with black beans, sour cream, fire roasted tomatoes, corn, cheese, cheddar cheese, and scallions.
Phew that was a lot. They were delicious though I only ate half the plate! I'm not that much of a pig.

Dessert:
I discovered these little mini almond ice cream sandwiches at Whole Foods and they're delicious and just the perfect size!

It's been quite a long day so I'm off to relax and do yoga, yet again.
Go do some yourself, it feels awesome!

What new things have you tried lately?

And hey, a little self-promoting. Don't forget to follow me on Twitter and Pinterest and follow the blog of course!

Superbowl Here We Come

I'm feeling fairly perky this Monday and it has a lot to do with football.
The San Fransisco 49ers won against the Falcons to go to the Superbowl!!

I haven't been excited for a Superbowl since the Chicago Bears went back in 2006. I'll definitely be throwing a Superbowl party this year and I just couldn't be happier.
I'm so proud of San Fransisco and the Bay Area
So far we've had the San Fransisco Giants win the World Series twice in 3 years and now the Niners are going to the Superbowl!
It's pretty damn awesome!

Have an awesome week!

Fit Fridays #6

It's Friday!
All I can say is thank goodness! I've been exhausted waking up extra early and of course when I do try to get more sleep my cat has to be a little brat and try to scratch EVERYTHING in my room.
Anywho, it's time for Fit Fridays!

Saturday:
Michael and I went hiking and I thoroughly froze my butt off.
It was a gorgeous 3 mile hike, albeit freezing at 45 degrees. We decided to cut our hike short so we didn't get too cold.

Sunday:
Michael had his first workout with our personal trainer so I did some strength training
I did a lot of arm exercises and even improved on one of the exercises. I'm finally starting to gain strength back!
Later on I started the next level of the training for my running. I ran 3 minutes, walked 1.5 minutes, ran 5 minutes, walked 2.5 minutes, and repeat. I went for 2.93 miles and was absolutely exhausted. But at least I got it done!
Though this was me before my run.

Monday:
I did a legs day at the gym and could barely walk afterwards ha! Always love getting in an excellent workout.
Tuesday:
Another run day, this time I ran 3.10 miles. When I was done with my run I walked over to my gym (love living around the corner from it) to meet up with Michael after his personal training appointment. So proud of him!
Wednesday:
I've been getting up at 5:30 in the morning so I can get a good workout in before everyone and their mother shows up. Unfortunately there's this one girl there that just gives me this judgmental look out of the corner of her eye while I'm trying to work out. It makes me feel self-conscious while I'm lifting and I just think it's plain rude. Anywho, another strength training day, this time legs.
After strength training Michael and I went to a yoga class and I fell in love with our teacher. She was very sweet and just a wonderful teacher.

Thursday:
I tried to do a full body workout, but my body is aching from the butt kicking I got from yoga. I got a lot of core work done at yoga and was still feeling it that day so I had to cut my workout short to save my muscles.
This week I've been helping my mom out at my old job to catch them up after a former employee left them high and dry. Unfortunately that means I have to dress up for work when all I want to do is stay in my comfy yoga pants.
This describes me perfectly

Yoga:
I've still kept up with yoga every night and it's really helped me feel amazing. Maria at Life Love Life wrote about her yoga journey and I just thought it was very beautiful and very similar to yoga for me.

So go get your butt moving! Be active and just have fun!

WIAW: Nothing Witty

Sorry for the lame-o post. Apparently I'm all out of witty blog posts for the moment.
But this whole business isn't about witty title posts!
Thanks to Jenn for this awesome link-up party!
All my eats are from Tuesday because I actually remembered to take pictures...I'm such a horrible blogger.

Pre-workout snack: A nice juicy pear

I went for a 3 mile run and Michael had a training session with our personal trainer so I figured a big breakfast was in order.
Breakfast:
1 egg & 1 egg white scrambled, sweet potato hash w/ shallots and garlic, and whole wheat toast with almond butter. And a nice big (half drunken drank drunk no clue) glass of chocolate almond milk.

Since breakfast was so big and late I forgo lunch so I didn't overstuff myself. I went to work (just helping my mom out for a week) and munched on some Annie's cheddar bunnies, which I didn't get a picture of. I've also been sucking water down like a beached fish.

Dinner
(aka second breakfast. Elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper?...am I the only one who quotes Lord of the Rings? Just me?)
Sprouted grain waffles w/ homemade blueberry sauce, sweet potato hash w/ eggs & bell peppers, and strawberries.
I almost forgot to take a picture of this, but thankfully Michael reminded me with my fork midway to my mouth. Bad blogger!

I've had this insane craving for froyo lately so off to Yogurtland we went
Dessert: vanilla froyo with brownie bites and crushed Butterfinger

And since my wittiness has still not come back I will just end this post with an adorable picture of my cat so maybe you'll keep coming back?

Have a great week everyone!

MIMM: An Update

Happy Monday everyone!
I hope you all had a marvelous weekend!

Saturday Michael and I went for a hike on Saturday since it was finally dry enough around here to go trekking through the forest.
Unfortunately it was 43 degrees when Michael and I started our hike. I was freezing my butt off.
Of course I was representing the Niners
Michael and I agreed to go for a longer hike once it warmed up some more around here so my hands wouldn't turn blue.
We got to watch the Niners kick ass against the Packers which was by far the most marvelous thing to happen.

It's been a long while since I've done an update on how I'm doing with my eating disorder. While I can't say I've overcome it just yet, I've improved tremendously. I don't panic as much when it comes to eating food. Instead of worrying about not eating food or making sure I eat the bare minimum, I've really been making sure I eat enough to nourish my body. I've been exercising a lot lately and I've been more concerned with making sure my body has the fuel it needs than how my body looks if I eat something. Living without my eating disorder constantly controlling my life is absolutely marvelous! I can credit some of this to Michael for encouraging me to eat and reminding me to stay positive about my body. He's definitely helped me start to change my view of myself.

Thanks to Katie for this awesome link-up! And congrats on your baby-to-be!!

What did you do over the weekend?

Energy Balls

So I realize I wrote about this originally ages ago and completely spaced about giving you the recipe. Whoops!
Here's the long overdue recipe!

Energy Balls
Makes 16 1-inch balls

1 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup ground flax seeds
1/3 cup shredded coconut
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped dried cherries or cranberries

Mix all the ingredients together.
Refrigerate for 45 minutes-1 hour
Roll into 1-inch balls and keep refrigerated.

Stats (per ball):
Calories: 136
Fat: 7g
Carbs: 16.5 g
Sugar: 9.5 g
Protein: 3.5 g

These are delicious! They're perfect to have before exercising or afterwards for a good burst of energy. The flax seeds add a nice crispiness to them that reminds you of Rice Krispies.

Fit Friday #5

Happy Friday everyone!
Hope you're all staying fit and healthy!
This week was the first week back exercising every day and I feel incredible, albeit very sore.

Sunday:
It was my first day running after my who-knows-how-many-weeks hiatus. Surprisingly it wasn't as hard as I was expecting it to be.
Michael and I ran 1.5 minutes, walked 1.5 minutes, ran 3 minutes, walked 3 minutes. The hardest part was how freaking cold it was outside, but at least we got to run along the beach which was gorgeous.
After our run we ran over to the gym so I could go to Zumba.

Monday:
Instead of doing strength training I went to Zumba because my favorite teacher was subbing that day and since she's leaving for 2 weeks I wanted to get as much Zumba as I could.

Tuesday:
Another run
Usually I try to keep a consistent course I run on, but I ended up just running around my neighborhood until the end.
I opted out of Zumba because I had done so much cardio in the past few days.

Wednesday:
Michael and I went to the gym for some strength training early in the morning. I didn't have a set plan for what I would do so I didn't get in a wonderful workout.

Thursday:
I woke up extra early to get to the gym to get a good, long strength training workout in.
10 forward lunges w/ 2 10# kettlebells
10 reverse lunges w/ 2 10# kettlebells
10 squats w/ 25# kettlebell
10 single leg bridges on each leg
10 pushups
24 bicep burners (8 bicep curls, 8 half bicep curls, 8 bicep curls) w/ 10# dumbells
15 shoulder presses w/ 10 # dumbells
After this I quickly ran over to the other part of the gym for yoga. It was really nice to stretch out and watch the stars through the windows, that's how early it was.
After yoga I went home to relax a little longer before heading out for my run.
I just about froze my butt off, thankfully I have this nice puffy running jacket Michael bought me for Christmas.

Today I am so incredibly sore from my workout that I just plan on lazing around and reading fitness magazines.

But let's not forget yoga!
I've been doing yoga every night for about 20 minutes, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. I can feel my flexibility increasing and it just makes me feel incredible.
Of course Link has to do yoga too
The minute I pull out my yoga mat he sits right on it.
I also started doing yoga with my mom in the morning so some days it's been yoga twice a day. Obviously I don't mind.

How have you kept up being active?
